Robert Burns House

Robert Burns House

It was in this simple sandstone house in a quiet Dumfries street that Robert Burns, Scotland's national poet, spent the last years of his brilliant life. He died here in 1796 at the age of just 37. The house gives us a picture of how the poet and his family lived in the late 18th century. It is now a place of pilgrimage for Burns enthusiasts around the world.

You can see his desk and chair in the study where he wrote his best known poems, the famous Kilmarnock and Edinburgh editions of his work, many original manuscripts and belongings of the poet and his family.

Open hours: 1 April - 30 September Monday to Saturday 10.00am - 5.00pm
Sunday 2.00pm - 5.00pm. 1 October - 31 March Tuesday to Saturday 10.00am -1.00pm and 2.00pm to 5.00pm.
