Colzium Lennox Estate & Garden

Colzium Lennox Estate & Garden

The historic Colzium Lennox estate surrounds the mansion house of Colzium and was gifted to the people of Kilsyth by W. Mackay Lennox in 1937. The estate has many features of interest, including a walled garden with an excellent display of conifers and rare plants. Nearby is a 17th Century ice-house and the ruins of the 15th Century Colzium Castle. A new play area was opened in 2006, with a variety of equipment designed for challenging, yet safe, enjoyment by youngsters.

A path leads to the adjacent Banton Loch, which partly covers the site of the Battle of Kilsyth (1645). At the battle General Baillie's army of Scottish Covenanters was put to the sword by Royalist forces under the command of the Marquis of Montrose. Some 6,000 persons were either slain on the battlefield or died later from their wounds. A cairn by the lochside comemorates the fallen
