Shetland Museum and Archives

The Gateway to Shetland's Heritage and Culture.....

From folklore to fine lace, boats to bones, underwater creatures to Up Helly Aa and ponies to Pictish art, the Shetland Museum and Archives is the place to discover Shetland’s story, from its geological beginnings to the present day.

The Museum and Archives hold large collections relating to all aspects of island life: industry, history, environment and culture. The modern archives offer a wealth of documents, from court records to local newspapers, as well as oral and musical collections. The gallery areas house traditional displays ranging from everyday objects to unique textiles and archaeology alongside contemporary displays and public art pieces.

When you put this together with the other services available, such as the Café Restaurant, shop and educational activities, the Shetland Museum and Archives really do have something for everyone.

Introducing Shetland’s story and the network of heritage sites throughout the isles, the Shetland Museum and Archives is the ideal place to begin your Shetland voyage of discovery…
