Hamilton Toy Collection

Situated in Callander at the gateway to the National Park, the Collection is housed in the extension to a former guesthouse, which was originally the ideal premises but is now virtually outgrown due to the Hamiltons' inability to stop collecting. The exhibition is very much a family affair: Mother (Patsy) presents the bears, Gollies, dolls' houses and associated paraphernalia in the Doll Room and the 1900 Nursery where virtually every item is of that date or earlier. Son in law, John, sets out his collection of science fiction and comic book toys in the Sci-Fi room, while son, Cris, has his collection of Corgi models sharing the Car room with father, Philip's somewhat less immaculate hoard of Dinky, Matchbox and other vehicles. Daughter, Catriona, specialises in Wade china figures and advertising miniatures which add colour to the corridors and the stairwell which leads to the landing where the working model railway layout is surrounded by model railway of most gauges. Finally,the Soldier room houses the most comprehensive display of toy figures in the country. Our boast is that' we have every type of toy you can remember or something very much like it.' The Museum is on the Main Street and is open from Easter to October incl. 12.00 to 4.30 daily except Mondays. Admission charges.
