Pease Dean

Pease Dean

Pease Burn is a steeply wooded 33 ha reserve situated immediately above Pease Bay, with two distinct arms, one following the Pease Burn, the other the Tower Burn. The area nearest the sea is an open valley with grassland, gorse, and alder beside the Pease Burn. Upstream from where the two burns merge, the valleys become steeper in some parts precipitous and much more wooded.

Tower Dean has extensive areas of mixed conifer /broadleaved woodland, which are open enough to support an attractive ground flora, particularly primroses.

There are paths throughout the reserve, including the end of the Southern Upland Way. For your own safety, and so as not to disturb wildlife, please keep to paths wherever possible and keep your dog under close control. Do not attempt to cross the railway line. The steepest slopes of the dean are dangerous and should be avoided. Take care crossing the narrow road bridge
