The Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway

Welcome to the Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway - the living museum of Scotland's Railways!
There's so much to see and to do; but one of the highlights of your visit is sure to be the thrill of travelling behind a lovingly-restored historic locomotive. From Bo'ness Station your journey takes you along the shores of the Forth, then climbs a tree-lined gradient with spectacular views and delivers you to Birkhill, with its lovely woodland and fascinating fireclay mine.
When you get back to Bo'ness, make sure you cross over the footbridge to visit the Scottish Railway Exhibition. Here you'll find a large selection from the Society's collection of locomotives, carriages and wagons, as well as models and displays that tell the history of railways in Scotland. There are a few surprises too - particularly the signs that actually encourage you to climb onto and explore some of the exhibits!
The Station Coffee Shop offers a full range of meals, snacks, hot and cold drinks and ice creams. The souvenir shop, with its books, videos and memorabilia for the enthusiast, as well as "Thomas" and other toys, is always a popular part of any visit.
The railway is operated by the volunteers of the Scottish Railway Preservation Society, who since 1961 have brought together Scotland's largest railway heritage collection. The volunteers not only carry out restoration work on the collection, but are also responsible for the operation and maintenance of every aspect of the railway. New volunteers are always welcome.
The Scottish Railway Exhibition is open on our train days only, from 1130 to 1700. Admission is £1 per adult; children can visit for free but must be accompanied.
