Three Hills Roman Heritage Centre

What have the Romans ever done for us? said John Cleese in the film - and ever since we have been trying to show what it was.
The small visitor-friendly Centre is an Accredited Museum full of surprises. April to October is the main season but November to March we are open on request (01896 822651). All volunteers, we 'run' weekly walks to the site, have 400 members of 'the garrison', six lectures a year, an outing and an illustrated journal.
Come in and see us!
A visitor friendly exhibition where the voice of Bill McLaren tells you the story of Roman and native celts in the capital of Southern Scotland, Trimontium sitting in the lee of the 3 Eildon Hills.
The Three Hills Roman Heritage Centre, located in the heart of Melrose and within 3 minutes walk of the Abbey, is full of information and artefacts associated with the Trimontium Fort occupied in the first and second centuries by the Roman Garrison. The Museum has relics from that period found in several archaeological digs on the Trimontium site during the last 100 years.
The Trimontium Fort was located in Newstead at the foot of the Eildons some 1 to 2 miles from the Melrose Museum, and the site can be visited at all time however there are weekly guided walks on Thursday afternoons when more details can be pointed out and questions asked and answered.
Within the museum the following is available seven days per week: -
Trio Montanus Vertex (Trimontium Man)
The models and aerial photographs
The blacksmith's, kitchen and pottery shops
Artefacts from excavations; from beads to beakers, ironwork and the 'Roman tile mouse'
Replica armour and the unique armguard.
Admire children's corner and the princess's ring
Take your pick of book and souvenir.
Watch Ermine Street Guard video of Roman manoeuvres
Hear you-know-who on the audio guide.
A taste of Roman Frontier Life in Scotland.
See little axes from Eildon Hill North tribal capital (plus 300 house platforms - and Roman signal station).
