Findhorn Foundation
The Findhorn Foundation is a unique international spiritual community and holistic education centre and the cornerstone of an exciting ecovillage. The community began in 1962 and is a vibrant, creative home to over 400 people. The educational programmes and the growing ecovillage offer practical steps for personal and planetary transformation.
There are organic gardens, an award-winning organic shop and café and over 50 innovative ecological buildings including recycled whisky barrel houses, a strawbale home, grass roofs, creative stone work, particularly in the nature sanctuary, a wind turbine and The Living Machine, an amazing eco sewage treatment system. There are also art, pottery and weaving studios and many alternative therapists and ethical businesses.
Every year 4,000 visitors come to residential workshops and conferences, and another 6,000 a year come as day visitors to stroll around the community, buy the wonderful bread and eat healthily at the Blue Angel Café.
The Foundations core education programme is Experience Week, a dynamic week offering a taste of community life. It is often life-changing, involving participants in a transformative process of self discovery. There are many other courses covering such areas as spiritual practice, nature and ecology, the creative arts, relationships and healing.
The residents and guests of the Findhorn Foundation and Community are all linked by a shared positive vision for humanity and the earth and know that global change begins within each one of us. They are committed to a conscious and sustainable lifestyle which acknowledges the interconnection of all life and live from a common ethic of love, service, integrity, responsibility and leadership.
The Foundation was a founding member of the Glogal Ecovillage Network and is a Non-Governmental Organisation associated with the Department of Public Information of The United Nations.
