The Old Byre Heritage Centre
The Old Byre presents an exhibition of Mull's flora, wildlife and fish together with 25 models giving the history of Mull. There is also a tearoom serving light meals throughout the day and a comprehensive gift shop. We can now offer freshly baked German Gateaux in our Tearoom.
Tucked away in lovely Glen Bellart, near the picturesque village of Dervaig, The Old Byre is a must for anyone who would like to absorb the history of Mull in an 'effortless' armchair manner. Sit comfortably in The Old Byre's exhibition gallery and be taken back in timeover two millennia to see Mull's first settlers and the peoples who lived in the following centruries.
A 30 minute film explores Nick Hesketh's intricate models of Mull life in the past, accompanied by Clarsach music composed and played by Sally Whitaker. Nick Hesketh, who is the author of 'The Story of Mull and Iona', provides the absorbing commentary. For the easiest and most enjoyable history lesson of your life, plus the hypnotic quality of the Celtic harp, it's a performance not to be missed.
