The Whitrope Rail Heritage Centre

Whitrope Rail Heritage Centre is a new development located on the former Waverley railway route midway between Hawick and Newcastleton.

The focus of the centre is to allow visitors to see the history of the building and development of the southern section of the Waverley Route by the North British Railway Company in 1859. As the exhibition centre develops, visitors will be able to access an extensive archive of photographs, memorabilia and sound recordings about the railway and the local area. In association with Forest Enterprise Borders, it is intended to develop access to the natural heritage of the area via a series of walks and viewpoints which will compliment the centre.

The centre forms part of the Waverley Walk and is suitable for walkers and cyclists who wish to explore both the former railway and the forest environs between Hawick, Kielder and Newcastleton. Parking is available on site and is accessible all year round. The Whitrope Centre is only five miles from Hermitage Castle and 12 miles from other visitor attractions such as Drumlanrig's Tower and Wilton Park Museum in Hawick and the Liddesdale Heritage Centre in Newcastleton.

The Centre is in the early stages of development and visitors should note that facilities are at present very limited.
