Barry Mill

Barry Mill

Enjoy the splash of the waterwheel, and the sound and smell of grinding corn in this early 19th-century working mill.

Now a haven of tranquility, in the 19th century Barry Mill was at the heart of this small, rural community, providing work and social opportunities for local people.

Until as late as 1982, the mill was still at work - the last of its kind in Angus - producing oatmeal and finally animal feed.

Now one of Scotland's last working water-powered corn mills, this is a magnificent example of the country's industrial heritage and you can learn all about the working of the mill from a real miller.

The machinery freewheels daily and a live demonstration of this disappearing craft is normally held on Sundays.

Barry Mill is in the care of the National Trust for Scotland and admission is free to members.

Opening Hours

1 April to 31 October, Thurs-Mon (closed Tues and Wed), 12-5. Sunday 1-5
