Crieff Ceramics
Crieff Ceramics Pottery Workshop and Gallery opened in June 2003. It is owned and run by Len and Rhoda Whatley. Len is a third generation potter, born and raised on the Isle of Skye.
MAKING:-
All pots sold are made here in our workshop. We hand make a diverse range of pots in the traditional way, on the potters wheel. When you visit us you can usually watch us at work on the wheel or some other part of the making process.
Our main focus is on making functional, domestic ware that is beautiful to look at and a pleasure to use.
The pots are made from extremely durable, non-porous stoneware that is once fired in our gas kiln to 1300oc. We also add some wood and soda to the kiln that can create unique effects on glazes and slips and adds a warm blush to some unglazed areas of the pots. This process means no two pots are exactly alike. We think this makes them all interesting in their own right. Our pots are safe to use in a microwave or dishwasher.
COMMISSIONS:-
We make too broad a range of pots to show everything on this site, but if you have a specific item in mind please contact us. We regularly make one-off special requests, large and small. We can accommodate personalised requests such as Baby Plates or other commemorative pieces. We can even arrange your Wedding List.
Delivery can also be arranged and quoted for at the time of ordering.
POTTERY CLASSES:-
Since we opened we have been offering adults the chance to learn how to make pots. These classes are popular. We focus on learning to throw on the Potter Wheel. People find the challenge of learning to throw stimulating, satisfying, relaxing and fun. Classes run from October to Easter in ten-week blocks. Our classes are small, 6-7 people in each, in order to ensure that everyone can spend as much time on our wheels as possible.
Each class is two and a half hours long and we usually run on Monday & Tuesday evenings and Tuesday afternoons. We also offer one-off sessions on the wheel for groups. Contact us for further details.
