Loch Turret

Loch Turret is a lovely tranquil spot in the fastness of the hills above Crieff, bordered on the east by the Blue Crags and Choinneachain HIll and to the north-west by the Munro (Scottish mountain over 3000ft) Ben Chonzie. Views to the south are open and visitors are rewarded by a vista over Strathearn with the spine of the Ochil Hills beyond. The walk along the high east loch shore is on a good path and each season brings many natural highlights. The path on the western shore is rougher and more heathery but affords easier access to the loch shore where there are some stoney beaches and good picnic spots. Loch Turret is dammed at the southern end and is now part of the Breadalbane Hydro Electric Scheme. In dry weather, when the water levels are lower, the roof and turrets of an old Victorian shooting lodge peep above the water line - a reminder of how the glen might have looked in older, simpler days.
A small tarmac road affords easy access for cars, cycles and walkers. Follow the road signs for the Famous Grouse Experience and then take the `Scottish Water` hill road to Loch Turret.
