Torridon Countryside Centre

Torridon Countryside Centre

A 6,500-ha (16,000-a) estate encompassing some of Scotlands finest mountain scenery, including Liathach, 1,054 m (3,456 ft), which has seven tops, and Beinn Alligin, 985 m (3,230 ft). The mountains, in addition to their scenic splendour, hold much of interest to geologists and naturalists. Liathach is of Torridonian sandstone some 750 million years old; the tops, of white quartzite some 150 million years younger. The estate includes part of the Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve and a Special Area of Conservation.

A Trust Countryside Centre, with interpretive display, small shop and an audio-visual presentation on wildlife, is at the junction of A896 and the Diabaig road. There is also a Deer Museum located 600 yards on, down the road leading to The Mains. Herds of red deer and Highland cattle may be seen in the farm fields. There is a short walk along a shore path between Mol Mor and the village.

Opening Hours

Countryside Centre: 31 March to 30 Sep, daily 105.
Estate, Deer Enclosure and Deer Museum (unstaffed): all year, daily.
