Birkhill Fireclay Mine
Birkhill Fireclay Mine

Developed by Mark Hurll in 1911 to provide clay for his Glenboig Brickworks, in beautiful location in the Avon Gorge south of Kinneil. Re-opened as tourist attraction by Bo'ness Heritage Trust in 1989.
For 100 years, high quality fireclay was extracted from Birkhill. Guided Tours of the underground workings meet every Bo'ness & Kinneil train at Birkhill Station.
