Brodie Castle is a 16-th century tower house with 17th and 19th century additions. The castle was the home of the Brodie family until the late 20th century but the family's connection here goes back to 1160.
It is situated in wonderful grounds. Pop into the tea room where you have the offer of light snacks, light lunches and their well-known home bakes in hearty portions.
Brodie Castle is in the care of the National Trust for Scotland and admission is free to Trust members.
Brodie Castle is a fine 16th-century Z-plan tower house with 17th- and 19th-century additions, set in peaceful parkland. The family association with the area predates the castle, going back at least to Malcolm, Thane of Brodie, who died in 1285, and possibly to 1160, when it is believed Malcolm IV endowed the Brodies with their lands. The castle was damaged in an attack in 1645 by Montroses army, but survived. It contains fine French furniture, English, Continental and Chinese porcelain, and a major collection of paintings, including 17th-century Dutch art, 19th-century English watercolours, Scottish Colourists and early 20th-century works. The magnificent library contains some 6,000 volumes.
The grounds are famous for their unique daffodil collection in spring. Explore them along the woodland walks, one by the edge of a 1.6-ha (4-a) pond with access to wildlife observation hides.
