Murcar Links Golf Club

Archie Simpson laid out the first course at Murcar in 1909 in spectacular links land in the north east of Scotland near Aberdeen. Master architect James Braid is known to have made alterations to the original layout in the early 1930s but there is no record remaining of precisely what refinements he made. Whatever they were between them Simpson and Braid have left a heritage of classic links golf which television commentator Peter Alliss once famously described as a course not entirely suitable for beginners. But the fact is that anyone who plays this magnificent links cannot fail to impressed by and take wonderful enjoyment from it. The club will host the Scottish Boys Matchplay Championship this year and a major refurbishment of the clubhouse is planned for the winter of 2005/2006.
