The Edinburgh International Climbing Arena:Ratho, is built around the stunning natural rock face of a disused quarry on the west of Edinburgh. This magnificent building is home to the world’s largest indoor climbing arena, making it a haven for climbers of all stages; from beginner to expert. Not content with just being a climbing arena, this five star visitor attraction also houses a spacious gym, fitness studio, spa, children’s soft play area and an outstanding array of conferencing and events space.
It has three large climbing walls, over 250 routes and somewhere around 15,000 holds. During Summer 08 we’ll add an additional two competition standard walls too, providing many more routes and the perfect arena for world championship events. Add to that a purpose built bouldering room and a further three boulders in the arena and you’ve got plenty to grab on to. From stone floor to glass ceiling the atrium is an impressive space in itself. With wooden beams and open walk ways joining the conference suites to the climbing arena, the whole of this 5-star activity centre is beautiful to behold.
Climbing at EICA
Climbing is a physically and mentally challenging sport that anyone can try out. Once you've had that first taste of success you'll be hooked and determined to go higher next time. With walls from 12m to 28m high and routes from the simple to the technically complex, we’ve got something for all levels and abilities. From beginner to expert, there are always new climbs to master and new skills to pick up. And our team of passionate, highly motivated climbers with over 125yrs of combined climbing experience between them, are always on hand to help.
