Galloway Cycling Holidays arrange cycling holidays in Dumfries and Galloway region of south west Scotland. The region extends from the English border in the east to ferry port of Stranraer to the Northern Ireland – over 100 miles of coastline, with several river valleys, three National Scenic Areas, the Galloway Forest Park and the popular Galloway Hills.
As well as being the home of the pedal cycle, invented by Kirkpatrick Macmillan in 1840 (see the location and museum at Drumlanrig Castle on one of our tours) the region was voted by Sustrans as having ‘the best signposted cycling routes in the UK’ in 2005.
Now you know the location is ideal for cycling, the next main ingredient for those who don’t want to miss the good bits of an area and prefer to a have a cycling holiday arranged for them is to select an experienced tour operator. In short, we are a small business with bags of up to date local knowledge of tea rooms, pubs, restaurants and interesting places not to miss.
Although we have our most popular routes, we specialise in arranging tailor made breaks starting and ending on any day of the week. We supply good quality hybrid bikes with gel seats!, helmets and whatever else you need. Another advantage with an organised tour is we carry your luggage for you between overnight stops – often seeing you along the way during our journey when we can assist if required. We arrange accommodation of all standards – from 3 to 5 star B&B’s, guest houses, to our best local countryside and coastal hotels.
We also assist with arrival and departure information including pickup from Dumfries or Lockerbie railway stations – or Prestwick, Glasgow, Edinburgh or Newcastle airports if required.
We are happy to receive enquiries when we will respond with a tour outline according to the number of miles and features you would like on a tour, e.g. castles, scenery, whisky distillery etc.
As a guide, a 3 night tour staying in 3 star B&B’s in 3 different towns, i.e. Castle Douglas ‘food town’, Kirkcudbright ‘artists town’ and Gatehouse of Fleet ‘ National Scenic Area’, with cycle hire and luggage transfer is £195 per person – assuming two sharing a room.’
