You will stay in the best accommodation in the Isles. These are Hotels with character and comfort, with helpful, friendly staff and high quality cuisine. You will travel in our minibus to all the best sites, and take short walks and strolls to explore each area. Holidays last from 6 to 10 nights and comprise a group of up to 14 like-minded participants, personally lead, organised and guided by Paul and Louise Hollinrake. Each Holiday is different, taking account of the needs and aspirations of our guests, making the most of new opportunities, local events and weather.
Paul and Louise live in Orkney full time and have personally led hundreds of tours in both Orkney and Shetland, and overseas. We are both experts in local wildlife and archaeology, and really enjoy sharing our expertise with our valued guests. Our aim is always to provide you with the very best experience we can, and to look after you in the best possible way from your first enquiry, right through to when we say goodbye at the airport or ferry terminal after your Holiday. By then we hope you will have become firm friends as well as our clients.
Orkney has famous World Heritage status archaeological sites and hundreds of lesser known sites to explore. We visit different islands to find out about the people who lived in Neolithic, Bronze Age and more recent times. Shetland has many ancient sites too, and in both island groups present-day digs regularly take place. We visit these exciting places whenever they are working. Shetland and Orkney have unique and wonderful wildlife and fine birdwatching. You will see red throated divers, red-necked phalaropes, whooper swans, arctic and great skuas, curlews, whimbrel, redshanks, purple sandpipers, turnstones, storm petrels, gannets, pintail, long-tailed ducks, tysties, guillemots, puffins, kittiwakes, ravens, hen harriers, peregrines, short-eared owls, to name just a few of the island gems. The diminutive Primula scotica and Edmonston’s chickweed are found in these isles, and nowhere else in the world. There are marsh orchids, oysterplants, bird’s foot trefoil, meadow vetchling and many other beautiful wild flowers for us to enjoy. Seals are common on our shores and we keep a careful watch for otters and porpoises or dolphins. In addition you can find out about the areas history, culture and prolific quality local crafts.
Many of our guests come on Holiday with us first to Orkney, and then often join us again in Shetland. We provide similar trips to foreign destinations too. Romania and the Danube Delta, The Greek Island of Lesvos, and Islay and Jura Holidays being regular favourites.
