Artloch Fishery
Artloch Fishery is situated in a very peaceful setting 3 miles outside of Huntly, Aberdeenshire and offers almost 5 acres of bank trout fly-fishing. Originally opened in 1976, the loch was extensively renovated and re-opened in October 2003. The improvements included a new fishing hut with disabled toilet, multi-fuel stove, a microwave, free tea and coffee. For the less able anglers we now have almost complete access to fishing around the fishery and the use of an electric scooter. The changes quickly attracted very favourable comments from both past and new anglers.
Artloch Fishery is stocked with Rainbow trout between 2.5 and 10 lbs, Brook trout averaging 2 lbs and resident Brown trout up to 10 lbs that when caught may be kept. A significant number of our Rainbow are naturally grown on, so a minimum of 6lbs leader is recommended.
The loch varies in depth from 5 to 15 feet and is fed by water from Glen Burn. Two silt ponds ensure that the water is very clear, albeit slightly peaty in colour. With its mature setting, Artloch provides the ideal conditions for naturally growing on trout - excellent water quality combined with an abundance of aquatic and fly life. In the first year it quickly gained a reputation for being an excellent top water fishery where dry, imitative as well as lures tempt fish and this remains true today.
Against the backdrop of mature conifers and deciduous trees, numerous own grown wild flowers, shrubs and trees are being introduced which we hope will further enhance the fishery.
We look forward to you visiting Artloch Fishery and should you 'rest a while' casting your flies across the water you may glance woodpeckers, a sparrow hawk, the visiting osprey, little grebes, tufted ducks or even an otter.
