Orkney Archaeology Tours

Orkney Archaeology Tours

Orkney is renowned for its spectacular archaeology: the world famous Neolithic village of Skara Brae, Maes Howe chambered tomb and the mysterious henge monuments of Brodgar and Stenness - part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site - are just the beginning. There are well over a thousand archaeological sites, not to mention Orkney's many other attractions: the magnificent 12th century St Magnus Cathedral, Scapa Flow, the Italian Chapel, the Churchill Barriers, beautiful scenery, wildlife, seals - the list is endless.

We are a specialist tour operator offering small group tours - our maximum group size never exceeds eight people, assuring you of a quality experience. Our tour leaders are professional archaeologists and qualified tourist guides resident in Orkney. We offer a choice of all-inclusive holidays or short breaks with comfortable accommodation at the Ayre Hotel in Kirkwall, Orkney's capital.

Our one week holidays are designed to let you make the most of your stay in Orkney. Our tour includes all the major sites on Mainland Orkney, together with day trips to the neighbouring islands of Rousay and Hoy. On Rousay the highlights are the magnificent Midhowe Cairn - 'the great ship of the dead' - and Midhowe broch, whilst Hoy boasts the only rock cut tomb in Britain, together with relics of Scapa Flow's naval history.

Our exclusive short breaks are ideal if you are touring Scotland and wish to add Orkney to your itinerary. Three nights hotel accommodation combined with two full days touring with our archaeologist guide allow us to show you the major Mainland sites. The tour is for your party only - a minimum of two persons and a maximum of eight - and no one else will be added.
