Great Cumbrae

Looking over the islands of Great and Little Cumbrae to Arran

Information enquiry

The island of Great Cumbrae lies just off Largs, on the Ayrshire coast.

Great Cumbrae is a hilly island roughly four miles long and two wide, accessible by a short ferry trip from Largs.

The only settlement is Millport, which curves around an attractive hilly bay on the south coast. Millport boasts Britain's smallest cathedral, the episcopal Cathedral of Argyll & the Isles which was completed in 1851 to a design by William Butterfield, one of the leading Gothic revival architects of the day.

An excellent attraction is the Robertson Museum & Aquarium. You can explore the peaceful countryside of the island on foot or by bike, or head round the coast for some good beaches.

Little Cumbrae, the islet to the south of Millport, is privately owned.
