Glen Prosen

Glen Prosen is essentially a quiet wooded backwater, with all the wild and rugged splendour of the other Angus glens but without the crowds.

Like Glen Clova, Glen Prosen has a narrow, twisty road on the western side and a good circuit can be made by crossing the river at the tiny village of Glenprosen and returning to Kirriemuir along the western side of the glen via Pearsie.

However, to explore the area thoroughly you need to go on foot. A mile or so into the glen from the quiet hamlet of Dykehead, the point where Glens Prosen and Clova divide, stands the house where Captain Robert Falcon Scott and fellow arctic explorer Doctor Edward Wilson planned their ill-fated trip in 1910-11, with a roadside stone cairn commemorating the expedition.

The best walk in the area is the reasonably easy four-mile Minister's Path connecting Prosen and Clova which takes in some fine moorland scenery. It's so-called because the local minister would walk this way twice every Sunday to conduct services in both glens.
