Abbotsford

Abbotsford the home of Sir Walter Scott, the 19th century novelist and poet author of Waverley, Ivanhoe, Lady of the Lake etc. Scott purchased Cartleyhole Farmhouse and Steading on the banks of the River Tweed near Melrose. Together with his family and servants, he moved into the farmhouse in 1812 and renamed it Abbotsford. Scott already had plans to enlarge the property. The present main block of Abbotsford we have today replaced the farmhouse.
