The Isle Studio
The Isle Studio at Sarah's Barn is the workplace of artist Amanda Sunderland and it is situated about 50 metres down a public footpath behind the Post Office in the beautiful coastal village - the Isle of Whithorn on the Machars Peninsula.
Amanda has lived and worked here intermittently since being a small child, as she says' I love this quiet almost forgotten corner of the world and it doesn't matter where I go or for how long, I always come back. I know I am at my happiest and best living and working here and I hope a sense of that shows in my paintings'.
Amanda has worked across a whole range of subjects and media, on projects large and small, since art college in Leeds in the 1980's. She is currently working on a series of large vibrant canvasses conveying the movement and energy inherent in the seas, skies and rock formation which are particular to this part of the country. Some are already commissioned and the series will be exhibited in different venues across the region over the next year.
Amanda has also made paintings about the Isle of Whithorn and it's connection to the Wicker Man film, made here in 1972; there are also Wicker Man T shirts, posters, prints and cards.
