Pilrig House - Park Apartment

Pilrig House’s Park Apartment (sleeps 4) is located in a 17th-century historic Scottish townhouse (built in 1638), which is uniquely located in a tranquil park, yet is only a 15-minute walk to Edinburgh’s city centre (5 mins by bus). Pilrig House also has a wonderful literary link – it was the home of Robert Louis Stevenson’s family – one of Scotland’s most acclaimed authors, and RLS often visited and played in the gardens here! The apartment overlooks private gardens and lush parkland, and is wonderfully comfortable and beautifully furnished. Unusual for Edinburgh, guests have an allocated car parking space in a private car park to the rear of the house. Philip and Debbie, the owners, always personally warmly welcome all guests.
Open all year. Non-smoking/No pets. 3-night minimum stays.
Our lovely two-bedroom apartment, within an A-Listed, 17th-century Scottish Townhouse (built in 1638), has a distinguished history and a wonderful literary connection with Robert Louis Stevenson – one of Scotland’s most acclaimed authors (please see our website for the full history and other information).

It is also within walking distance of the ‘Shore’ area of Edinburgh – once a bustling port, now a fashionable waterside location with great restaurants and interesting shops and galleries – and, where The Royal Yacht Britannia is berthed.

Guests have exclusive use of the house’s sweeping Palladian staircase entrance, at the top of which are double oak doors and a small seating area – a wonderful south-facing suntrap overlooking the park, perfect for sipping a glass of wine and watching the world drift by – especially after busy days’ sightseeing! You can also enjoy the private gardens, including a Regency garden offering secluded seating areas and which is teeming with wildlife – birds, squirrels, and, where the resident fox sometimes makes an appearance… a lovely peaceful area, away from traffic noise.
