St Stephen's Centre
Church of Scotland
Built 1828 as St Stephens Church, this is the ecclesiastical masterpiece of W H Playfair. Severe Greek detail but Baroque in spirit, with a large tower dominating the vista from Queen Street downhill through the northern New Town. Interior recast in 1956 when a floor was inserted at the level of the former gallery whose cast-iron Egyptian columns were retained. Outstanding original example of an organ by Father Willis. Built 1880. No Services
