1864 in powerful Ruskinian Gothic, this is Frederick T Pilkingtons greatest achievement. Spire 230ft is well-known landmark. Spectacular theatrical space within with double gallery. Painted ceiling. Organ originally by Hope-Jones, reconstructed by Lewis. Removal of centre and other pews in sanctuary with other minor alterations and the installation of spiral staircases to the ?rst gallery 1999, by Gray, Marshall Associates of Edinburgh.
