The present church, the seventh on the site, is over 100 years old, 1894 by Hippolyte Blanc, retaining the 1790 spire. Altered in 1990, Stewart Tod. Tradition has it that St Cuthbert had a cell church here. If so, Christian worship has taken place here for 1300 years. Furnishings include scroll-topped and Renaissance-style stalls, marble communion table, murals and stained glass window by Tiffany. fine organ originally by Hope-Jones, 1899, rebuilt 1928, 1957 and 1997. Display of life of St Cuthbert in vestibule. Interesting graveyard, with many famous names, is an oasis in the centre of the city. Gift shop and refreshments. Buses to Princes Street and Lothian Road.
