Kingussie

Kingussie is a pleasant village in Badenoch... with a mean shinty team!
Kingussie is the home of the Highland Folk Museum which houses a collection of exhibits depicting the social history of the Highlands. This attractive village also offers a range of shops, galleries, craft outlets, pubs and restaurants as well as a majestic 18-hole golf course. The sport at which Kingussie excels most, however, is shinty. They have been the top team in the game in recent years, especially enjoying the derby match with their local rivals Newtonmore.
Nearby, the ruins of Ruthven Barracks provide a timeless reminder of the Jacobite rebellion. A stronghold since the 13th century, Ruthven Barracks offer an emotive link to the Jacobite Rising led by Prince Charles Edward Stuart - better remembered as Bonnie Prince Charlie. The ruins you see today are all that remain of government barracks built in 1719. In February 1746, the barracks were captured and destroyed by the retreating Jacobite troops and, in the aftermath of the Battle of Culloden two months later, it was beside these charred ruins that the Prince's defeated army held its final melancholy rendezvous.
